EmpowerCare: Strengthening Cervical Cancer Prevention in Singapore

EmpowerCare is a new course piloted by SCCPS to strengthen healthcare providers’ knowledge, clinical skills and communication in cervical cancer prevention.

The course begins with five self-paced online modules covering the burden of cervical cancer in Singapore, national cervical cancer screening guidelines, HPV-related cervical disease, screening methods and HPV vaccination. 

The in-person workshop features three interactive stations:

• Practical Skills Lab: Practise cervical smear collection and HPV self-sampling, with an emphasis on patient communication.
• The Conversation Clinic: Use simulated patient role-play to practise consultations and respond to common patient questions.
• Case-Based Strategy: Work through clinical scenarios, navigate patient concerns and reflect on effective communication strategies.

Through both theory and hands-on practice, EmpowerCare aims to build doctors’ confidence in discussing cervical cancer prevention, screening and vaccination with patients.
