Letter from the Chairperson 30 August 2005

Dear Colleague,

Amemdments to the Structured Colposcopy Training Programme and Registration

After the register of colposcopists was set up in March 2003, some concerns and feedback was received from the O&G fraternity.

After a meeting between the SCCPS, OGSS and HPB in May 2004, several amendments were made to the registration process to try to address these concerns.

The changes include:

1.
The minimum number of colposcopies performed over a 2-year period for retention in the Register of Colposcopists has been reduced from 50 cases to 30 cases.
2.

The 2-yearly register maintenance fee of $50 has been waived.

3.

The closing date for the grandfather clause for specialists registered by the SAB (Specialists Accreditation Board) before March 2003, has been extended from 31 March 2004 to 31 December 2004.

This was announced to the O&G fraternity on 27th July 2004. The HPB Cervicalscreen Singapore National Screening Programme was launched on 16th August 2004. The Register of Colposcopists was set up on the SCCPS website (www.sccps.org) at the same time.

A final reminder letter was sent out in December 2004. At the closing date for the grandfather’s clause on the 31st December 2004, there were a total of 181 colposcopists registered.

For those who registered earlier under the grandfather’s clause, the time for their 2 yearly renewal has come. In order to align all “grandfathers”, the SCCPS council and CRC committee have decided to extend the renewal period for all “grandfathers” till 30 November 2006.

In order to remain on the register beyond that date, it is necessary to have attended a postgraduate colposcopy course and submit form Annex 3. Please note that the maintenance fee of $50 has been waived.

Yours sincerely
